Sharps Awareness

Course Objectives:

Sharps can cause serious damage as well as exposing individuals to health risks if not handled correctly.  This course provides an insight into the main issues associated with the incorrect handling of sharp implements, as well as the risks to ensure safe disposal and handling.

Course Content:

The following topics are covered:

  • Health and safety legislation
  • Types of injuries
  • Risk of infection
  • Blood Borne Viruses (BBV)
  • Methods of preventing exposure
  • Equipment and its use
  • Safe handling and disposal
  • Managing an injury or exposure

 At the end of the course delegates are required to complete a practical assessment and theory question paper.

On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a C&C Training Ltd Certificate of Attendance that is valid for 3 years. 

Who Should Attend?

Operatives who work with, or have the potential to come into contact with, sharp objectives (sharps), such as customs officials, cleaners and emergency service personnel.  Also useful for supervisors and managers who control such activities.
